boat ride on the Ganges at dawn. Varanasi is the holiest, most important pilgrimmage destination in India. Hindus go there to die so that they can be cremated beside the Ganges and their ashes can be thrown in to the river. It’s believed that this will free their spirit from the cycle of samsara-death and reincarnation.
