this guy. There was a Hindu festival on in Kumily while we were there too, so the atmosphere was great. One day we stumbled across this elephant being brought from house to house on the street we were staying on to receive gifts from all of the Hindu families (lots of Christians in Kerala too). The temple in Kumily is a temple of the Hindu god Ganesh, a human with an elephant head, and apparently they do this every year to bring good luck to the houses for the year. That was really cool, there were brahmins (hindu monks) playing traditional instruments marching in front of the elephant, and the families were giving him bunches of bananas or other food as offerings and washing him down with hoses.
