The great thing about doing the canoe boat tour on the Backwaters instead of renting a boathouse was that we went along the smaller canals and really came in to close contact with the locals. We came across people washing their clothes or their dishes or themselves in the waters all day; and we stopped for breakfast and lunch in the homes of two family members of our guide.
